The Search for Louisiana Rosenwald Schools

Earlier this summer, we received a call from Claiborne Parish about a former Rosenwald School building. After a site visit, conversations were sparked about other Rosenwald schools across the state.  LTHP has launched a new webpage to learn and research more about these historic structures.  If you know or have a personal connection to one of the more than 400 schools in Louisiana, please complete the brief memory survey under each planning district page or contact us here.  LTHP hopes to connect the dots regarding any missing, relocated, reused, and restored school buildings.

Featured Property in Opelousas

This building was constructed by prominent attorney, state representative, and later district judge, Gilbert L. Dupré, the great-grandson of Governor Jacques Dupré of Opelousas. In the 1920s, Judge Dupré wrote one of the first political histories of St. Landry Parish.   This property is located just two blocks from the courthouse square and has been saved by LTHP's Revolving Fund Program.  Listed at $15,000.  Learn more here

Do you know a property for sale in your corner of Louisiana?! LTHP offers free listings to current members and a new free trial six-month membership to list available "for sale" historic properties. It's easy to sign up.  Listings are easy to upload and promote to interested buyers.
